Stephen Jay Gould's Story

Stephen Jay Gould, the well-known and influential American paleontologist and evolutionary biologist, was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma at the age of 40.  Discouraged by the survival statistics associated with the disease at the time of his diagnosis, Dr. Gould went on to write, "The Median is not the Message,"  an essay that takes a closer look at those statistics and provides an inspiring alternative perspective.  Stephen Jay Gould then went on to live another 20 years before succombing to a second unrelated cancer in 2002.  This essay is a must read for all mesothelioma patients and their loved ones.  For a copy of this essay, please go to:
