Welcome to the Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation

Founded in 2008, the Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation is a largely volunteer-run registered charity, dedicated to raising awareness and understanding about mesothelioma in Canada. Mesothelioma is a rare cancer that is almost exclusively linked to asbestos exposure. The CMF supports mesothelioma patients and their families, as well as the development of a network of expertise in mesothelioma diagnosis, treatment and care across Canada. Learn more about us here.

The CMF continues to monitor recommendations on COVID and cancer

We are in unprecedented times. Since the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a global pandemic on March 11th, 2020, we have seen the total number of cases in Canada rise to 85,103 and we collectively are mourning the loss of 6,453 Canadians, whose deaths are related to COVID-19 (Source: Public Health Agency of Canada, May 25, 2020).

The CMF is staying abreast of the recommendations of the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding COVID-19. PHAC has deemed COVID-19 a serious health threat to Canadians. On its website, PHAC notes that COVID-19 can make anyone sick, but that some Canadians are at higher risk of more severe outcomes. These include, for example, people aged 65 and over, people with compromised immune systems, and people with underlying medical conditions. You can learn more about the Government of Canada's recommendations on how to prevent exposure to the virus by clicking here.

We are also actively monitoring the websites of organizations that publish clinical practice guidelines for any information on mesothelioma and COVID-19. We have created a webpage with links to resources on cancer and COVID-19 and will post information and resources on mesothelioma as they become available. You can navigate to the resource page from the Quick Links menu or by clicking here.

Thank you Miskin Law!

Miskin Law has stepped up once again with a very generous donation to the Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation.  We are very grateful for Miskin Law's continuing support.  Their donation will help us continue to support those affected by mesothelioma.

The pandemic has prevented the Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation from holding our usual fundraising events.  This has had a devastating affect on our fundraising efforts.

Please consider helping us continue our work. Donate now.  We can't do it without you!

The Star and The Record publish "The Uncounted", a 6-part series of investigative reports on occupational disease in Canada

"Many Canadians work their entire adult lives assuming if they become sick because of their job, they and their families will be taken care of. For the thousands of people who do develop an occupational disease each year, the reality is very different."

Cancer and COVID-19

The CMF is actively monitoring the websites of organizations that publish clinical practice guidelines for any information on mesothelioma and COVID-19. We will post information and resources as they become available. CMF online support groups for patients & caregivers

An important objective of our organisation is to support the emotional health of patients living with mesothelioma, as well as the people that care for them.  Currently, we offer a number of private, invite-only Facebook groups for mesothelioma patients, loved ones and bereaved to connect with one another, share experiences and seek support from others in similar situations.

To join one of our groups, please follow these steps:
